Supernova Cooking Club

Supernova Cooking Corner has been bringing flavor and fun to our community for over a year! The very first class—chicken noodle soup—was hosted by Program Specialist and Recreational Therapist Michele Grande, alongside Assistant Residential Director Melissa Hitchman. Since that first session, the duo has continued to host monthly cooking classes, inspiring clients to learn, cook, and enjoy nutritious meals together.

Each month, Cooking Corner focuses on one featured recipe. Clients are divided into small groups, with Michele assigning them based on their individual schedules. On average, five groups participate each month, each one getting hands-on experience with a new recipe! While we’re currently at capacity, we’re excited to announce that plans to expand the program are in the works.

The goal of Supernova Cooking Corner is to promote independence through cooking—teaching essential life skills while introducing participants to new foods and flavors. Michele and Melissa take pride in showing clients how to enjoy the meals they love in healthier ways. Every recipe begins with a client’s request, then gets a healthy twist to make it more nutritious and well-balanced.

One of the biggest hits so far? A high-protein, low-calorie, low-carb macaroni and cheese—proof that healthy can still be delicious! And every December, the spotlight turns to a fan favorite: baking and decorating sugar cookies.

After each class, Michele types up the recipe with easy, step-by-step directions and shares it in our newsletter, The Stellar Gazette. At the end of the year, all the recipes are collected into Supernova’s Official Cookbook – Made with You, For You.
